Word is getting out about the 10th annual DeLand Original Music Festival. It's scheduled for 1 p.m.-1 a.m. on Saturday, November 6. It's a great opportunity to see a ton of area bands playing (mostly) original music. Let me know if you need more information.

There seems to be an overabundance of Allman/Stevie Ray/Bonamassa "guitar hero" type of blues groups in these parts-not knocking it, but everybody thinks they are Joe B, Stevie Ray or Dickie Betts and is clobbering you over the head with it...I'm just saying that There's TOO MANY of these kind of blues acts, and "power trios"...

Noticeably absent is a niche that needs to be filled:

Looking for a guitarist, bassist and drummer, maybe even a sax to join a keyboardist and female vocalist in a blues based venture. I don't see any power-blues acts in this area with a female vocalist, and I think this could really work. Think about it - a sometimes sultry/sometimes in your face blues with a woman singing instead of the usual. Just a thought. Any takers?

I have been attending three jams lately, all of which are excellent blues jams. On Sundays in Ormond Beach Anthony Wild hosts a jam at Pirana Grill, and Tuesdays and Thursdays Sam Church hosts some well attended blues jams. Tuesday at BFFAR in Holly Hill, and Thursdays at First Turn Grill in Port Orange. Those two are mainly blues, with some jazz and some 60s soul. Sam also hosts a blues and rock jam (it winds up rock) at Boothill on Wednesdays.

For the blues fans, the First Turn on Thursdays and the Pirana Grill on Sundays are definitely worth attending. I have never met so many talented musicians who are dedicated to blues. On the other days, the jams are definitely worth going to because even more talented musicians with a wider range of musical interests show up. Both Anthony Wild and Sam Church are giving to the local musician community and I hope folks will stop by and join in.
